POLO & HORSE PAINTINGS & SKETCHES
I have finished the Horse Hero Portrait winner watercolour, a painting of Private Colin for Jane Hamilton.
It was taken from a photo of Private Colin with eventer Sam Griffiths at the Burghley 4* trot up in 2004.
This is the moment that Jane showed Colin his portrait.

I chose to paint Private Colin, from the many Horse Hero competition entries, because he has been
through so much and just keeps going. Coming round from a simple procedure he fell and broke his hip,
Ella McEwen persuaded them all that he deserved another chance, despite his numerous mishaps
over the years, so with the help of her father (vet Bobby McEwen) and despite the odds being
very much against him, Colin was nursed back to health and is now enjoying a
second career doing pure dressage.
Private Colin was evented by Sam Griffiths, bred by Graham Fletcher, and is owned by Jane's husband
David Hamilton and their friend Leela Patel. When he retired from senior eventing they loaned him to the
McEwens for their son and daughter to do some Junior/Young Rider competitions.
It was a joy to finally meet the horse himself, who is such a character, along with Jane, David and vet Bobby.
